2024 Teacher Externship - Strengthening Connections between Public Schools and the Business Community
The fourth annual Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas Teacher Externship took place June 10-14, 2024. Thirteen businesses and 15 teachers from 11 school districts collaborated to better prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s workforce. The Externship’s focus was on high-demand occupations such as manufacturing, healthcare, professional and technical services, and construction.

Stakeholders Convene to Align Education Pathways to High Demand Occupations
Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas, one of the state’s 17 Tri-Agency Regional Convener Grant Awardees, is leading an effort to identify and align regional educational pathways for targeted in-demand occupations across the Deep East Texas workforce development area. The comprehensive Regional Strategy for planning and executing high-quality pathways will be delivered in early 2025.

Manufacturing Day - Educating Students about Career Opportunities in Manufacturing
On Manufacturing Day – October 6, 2023 – over 150 Deep East Texas 8th grade students learned about exciting career opportunities where they can create, contribute and connect! The future is bright for students who choose careers in manufacturing, because the jobs are in high demand and near their hometowns and families.

HDJT Grant and Partnership with CEIDC Funds Equipment to Prepare Crockett Students for Manufacturing and Health Occupations
Chairman Bryan Daniel, Commissioner Representing the Public for the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), presented a $15,000 High Demand Job Training (HDJT) grant to Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas (WSDET) for training at Crockett ISD. With a $15,000 matching grant from the Crockett Economic and Industrial Development Corporation (CEIDC), WSDET used the grant funding to purchase equipment for Crockett ISD to train students to earn health care and manufacturing certifications.

HDJT Grant and Partnership with JEDCO Funds Equipment to Prepare Students for Computer Occupations
Through the High Demand Job Training grant program, the Texas Workforce Commission provided a $56,172 grant, which was matched by the Jasper Economic Development Corporation. Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas purchased $112K in equipment to train students attending the Deep East Texas College and Career Academy in high demand computer occupations.

TWC Awards Nine JET Grants to Five School Districts and Lamar State College - Port Arthur
The grants of nearly $2.6 million funded equipment to train 594 students in high demand health, manufacturing and transportation careers: Lamar State College - Port Arthur, Jasper ISD, Deweyville ISD, Newton ISD, Spurger ISD, and Woodville ISD.
