Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas
This program offers Deep East Texas educators a professional development opportunity through a worksite externship. Educators will gain professional growth, industry-specific teaching strategies, and valuable business connections. This program also aims to connect students with relevant industries.
Educators will apply to spend their externship experience with one of the following participating employers:

Previous Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas Teacher Externships have resulted in internships and jobs for students, industry career exploration fairs, equipment donations, tours, and classroom speakers. Click to learn more about past years: 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Benefits:
- $1,000 stipend – paid out in two phases ($500 after completion of the externship in June, $500 after the lesson delivery and worksite/classroom visit with employer in Fall 2025)

Requirements:
Application: Teachers who meet eligibility requirements are asked to identify what they hope to gain from this experience and explain how it will impact their students’ educational outcomes.
Eligibility requirements:
Applicant must (1) be a Deep East Texas public middle or high school educator, school counselor, or school administrator; a charter middle or high school educator, school counselor, or school administrator; or an Adult Education teacher; (2) be a U.S citizen or noncitizen authorized to work in the U.S.; and (3) if male, meet U.S. Military Selective Service registration requirement.
Applicants will be asked to upload the eligibility documentation when completing the application. Please have digital versions of the documents you plan to submit, such as US Passport, driver's license, social security card and work authorization letter from the ISD (this can be a very brief letter on school letterhead stating you are currently employed with that school - it must be signed and dated by an administrator).
Lesson Plan: Educators will prepare a lesson plan using what they learned and deliver it to students in the Fall 2025 semester.
Worksite/Classroom Visit: Educators will provide documentation of a worksite/classroom visit with the employer.
Post-Externship Survey: Educators will complete a survey associated with the experience.
Timeline:
June 5, 2025 – Virtual Orientation for all participating Educator and Employer contacts.
June 9-13, 2025 – Onsite at the Employers worksite
June 16, 2025 – Debrief for all participating teachers and Employer contacts
Teacher Extern Selection:
Priority will be given to first-time applicants, with a waiting list for additional slots.
The completed application and all required documents must be submitted by April 4, 2025.
