Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III joins local leaders, educators and students on his one-day tour through Deep East Texas.
- Commissioner Treviño and Mark Durand, Executive Director of Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas, started the day at Stephen F. Austin State University campus where they spoke at the conference for Deep East Texas Travel and Tourism. Those attending included Mary Ann Rojas, Executive Director of Stephen F. Austin State University Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation; and Nancy C. Windham, President and CEO of Texas Forest Country Partnership.
- Cory Claude and Melanie Beltran, Nacogdoches High School CTE Ambassadors, and Principal Stephen Autrey hosted the commissioner on a tour of the school's CTE facility where he heard how the CTE programs benefit students wanting to obtain certifications before graduation and begin a career in the tech or industry workforce. The tour included automotive, EMT, culinary, welding, and graphic design studies.
- At Huntington High School, the commissioner met with Superintendent David W. Flowers, Principal Shane Stover and CTE students who showcased the health science lab and demonstrated how the learning environment helps them with the necessary skills to work in the healthcare field.
- Local Workforce Development Board Members and local leaders met with the commissioner to discuss the workforce challenges and opportunities in the region. Those attending included Mark Durand; Lisa Balty, Board Member and HR Deputy Director for Stephen F. Austin State University; Shawn Dunn, District Director for Texas Senator Robert Nichols, District 3; James Gentry, Board Member; Jimmy Mize, Lead CEO and Mayor for the City of Nacogdoches; Ben Mott, Board Member and owner of Mott's Hardware; Malcolm Ifoezeh, TWC Vocational Rehabilitation; Joe Clyde Adams, Board Member; Robert Fitzpatrick, Board Member; Tim Ditoro, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Angelina College; Kotosha Jeffery, HR Director for Endura Products; Karen Rosser, Jr/Sr Counselor for Hudson ISD; P.T. Walters, Career & Technology Education Director for Hudson ISD; Tyane Dietz, Board Member and External Relations Committee for the Texas Association of Workforce Boards; Linda Parker, District Director for Texas Representative Trent Ashby, District 9; Betty Russo, Regional Representative for the Governor's Office; and LaTreaser Cartwright, Project Director for Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas.
