STI Group Wins 2023 Local Employer of Excellence Award

HOUSTON – Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas is proud to recognize STI Group as the region's 2023 Local Employer of Excellence. STI Group CEO Paul Spence accepted the award at the Texas Workforce Commission's (TWC) 26th Annual Texas Workforce Conference held November 29 - December 1, 2023, in Houston. Local Workforce Development Boards select employers who make a positive impact on workers, the community, and the state through their partnerships with Texas Workforce Solutions.
Since 1978, STI Group has served the chemical refining, petrochemical, oil and gas production, drilling, energy, power generation, pulp & paper, and related industries. The company that began in Jasper County is creating more jobs in Deep East Texas as it expands its footprint with a new facility in Angelina County.
“Local partnerships between employers, workforce boards, and educational institutions are critical to the success of the Texas workforce,” said TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel. “These collaborations allow employers to continue to have the skilled workforce they need and for individuals to get good-paying jobs.”
STI Group has been a partner with Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas and has been instrumental in the success of the 2021, 2022 and 2023 Teacher Externship Programs. STI Group has participated in job fairs and has used the job posting and candidate matching services through WorkInTexas.com and the Texas Workforce Commission’s Recruiter portal on LinkedIn. STI Group regularly advises the Board on industry workforce needs.
“As we continue to strengthen our partnerships with business leaders, it is one of many steps in building career pathways that will continue the Lone Star State’s economic momentum,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III. “The talent pool in Texas is stronger than ever thanks to the commitment and partnerships between businesses and Workforce Solutions.”
Mr. Spence serves on several school district advisory boards to help the schools develop their manufacturing programs to meet industry needs in areas such as welding. STI Group is pursuing further partnerships with TWC through the various skills training grant opportunities.
“Texas employers know the Lone Star State is the best place to start and grow a business,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza. “The Employer of Excellence Award is a tremendous achievement for Texas employers like STI Group to showcase their dedication to employees in the number one state in the nation.”
Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas is among 28 Local Workforce Development Boards located throughout the state. The Board serves 12 counties: Angelina, Houston, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity and Tyler. Through partnerships with TWC and their communities, Workforce Boards meet the needs of Texas employers and workers through locally-designed, market-driven workforce development initiatives and services.
